According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety. Administration (NHTSA), 42,915 people died from fatal motor vehicle crashes in 2021. This was a 10.5% increase over 2020 and was the largest increase in vehicle fatalities since the NHTSA began using the current system traffic of tracking fatalities in 1975.
The number of fatalities from motor vehicle accidents was the most since 2005 when 43,510 died from fatal crashes.
